The Handy Paint Pail was first created in 2001 by Mark Bergman in a classic Do-It-Yourself style. While painting around his house using a standard "coffee can" paint container, Mark's hand began to tire. In response, he designed a strap out of duct tape, giving birth to the Handy Paint Pail. This multi-use pail features a built-in bracket, magnetic brush holder, roller grid, and tool and rag holder, making it the perfect solution for any project on or off a ladder.

In 2008, Bercom made some changes and improvements to their existing products and expanded their product line, starting with the color of the pails. Believing that customers should have the freedom to continuously change colors, Bercom decided to do the same. After five years of producing gray pails, Bercom switched to a vibrant red color. Additionally, they made the Pro Series Paint Pail lighter in weight, lower in price, and rebranded it as the Handy Roller Pail.

Responding to customer requests for a way to attach the Roller Pail to a ladder, Bercom introduced the Handy Ladder Hook. This handy item securely attaches the Handy Roller Pail or a standard paint can to any ladder, while also having versatile uses beyond just painting.

One of the most successful new products from Bercom in 2008 was the Handy Paint Cup. This entry-level paint cup quickly gained popularity, offering customers an affordable alternative to the original Handy Paint Pail. Although it lacks some of the features of the original pail, the disposable Handy Paint Cup can hold up to a pint of paint and includes a built-in magnet, making it ideal for trim work and craft projects.
